I don't care if they are contractors. They were working for the CIA and carrying out a task that was sanctioned by the CIA and higher levels of the government. Outing them as such exposes these individuals to personal danger and they were merely employed to carry out a task by others.

I don't care if they are contractors. They were working for the CIA and carrying out a task that was sanctioned by the CIA and higher levels of the government. Outing them as such exposes these individuals to personal danger and they were merely employed to carry out a task by others.
Do a google search for their names and you'll find them discussed for over a week. They were found from the memo's released last week by the court order.
I just saw the ABC report on TV, they were hired by the CIA because they claimed experience that it turned out they never had and were hired months before we even had prisoners to torture. They were not shy about bragging about the $1000/day contract.

Just been, 25 April, 8700 kiwis and 22,000 Aussie diggers landed at Gallipoli. We lost 2200 and 4700 wounded in one day. The Aussies suffered the same proportion of casualties. Our family went to the dawn memorial service. Very moving. Of a town of 40,000, 5,000 stood silently in the pre-dawn-dark.

I'll bet these guys can think of something better than waterboarding for ABC News.
ABC news was slow to report it, I found stories naming those two back to April 9 th and this one goes back to 2007
"Psychologists, working in secrecy...actually designed the tactics and trained interrogators in them while on contract to the C.I.A.," Katherine Eban wrote for Vanity Fair in 2007.
Psychologists James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen reportedly "reverse-engineered" tactics from a military training program known as SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape), originally designed to help captured U.S. soldiers withstand abusive treatment. They then showed military and CIA interrogators how to apply the tactics to detainees in an effort to break them down, according to articles and Jane Mayer's book "The Dark Side."

Fine, I was just trying to show how old the news was, since it seemed everyone was ready to blame ABC for treason when the news has been on the net for over a week.
With a little work, you could find out who first broke the names, but the 2007 Vanity Fair report even predates the memo's release.
If you are forming up a lynch mob, it's a good idea to find the true villain.

I thought 70 cents on the dollar was the going rate, but what do I know.
When I changed banks years ago, I closed my account on payday. They redeemed my account and included the autopay, then they also put it in my account. I didn't realize it and redeemed it. When I realized, while going over statements, what had happened, I went into the bank and paid them back. They were surprised - apparently, they'd written it off.

In Chrysler Deal, Obama Criticizes Reluctant Hedge Funds
As Chrysler filed for bankruptcy, President Obama had harsh words for the hedge funds who refused to accept the government's offer of about 29 cents on the dollar for about $6.9 billion in debt Chrysler owed.By Major Garrett
[Link: www.foxnews.com...]
I bet Obama was a petulant little brat when he didn't get his way when he was a youngster?
It's complicated but hedge funds got us into this economic mess.
"A group of investment firms and hedge funds decided to hold out for the prospect of an unjustified taxpayer-funded bailout," Obama said, flanked by his economic, energy and environmental teams. "They were hoping that everybody else would make sacrifices, and they would have to make none. Some demanded twice the return that other lenders were getting. I don't stand with them."
It looks like they were holding Chrysler's debts hostage hoping for a giant government payout. I know the whole "John Galt" crap is popular these days but these financial companies are fucking us and they'll milk us dry and crash the entire world economy to make a few bucks. I'll side with the White House on this one.

The value is what they market will pay. Nobody else was bidding on Chrysler's debt. Now it's next to worthless as the company heads to bankruptcy. They might not get anything depending on the judge. The government is assisting the bankruptcy so I wouldn't be surprised if Obama finds a way to shut these pricks out completely. Good for him. They were trying to milk the taxpayers. Fuck 'em.

The Trillion Dollar Fix
by Megan McArdle
Excerpt:
Up until now, Obama has largely done the fun part of governing: promising people free stuff. To be sure, even some of that is fairly unpopular, but the auto bailouts have undoubtedly pleased the UAW more than they have angered the rest of the population, and most of the bank spending has occurred under programs originated in the Bush administration. Now, however, the bill for Obama's central proposals is about to come due. Unless Obama thinks he can borrow something like a trillion dollars a year indefinitely, he is going to have to ask Americans to make sacrifices to pay for the goodies.
“‘Sacrifice’ does not mean the rejection of the worthless, but of the precious. ‘Sacrifice’ does not mean the rejection of the evil for the sake of the good, but of the good for the sake of the evil. ‘Sacrifice’ is the surrender of that which you value in favor of that which you don’t.
“If you exchange a penny for a dollar, it is not a sacrifice; if you exchange a dollar for a penny, it is. If you achieve the career you wanted, after years of struggle, it is not a sacrifice; if you then renounce it for the sake of a rival, it is. If you own a bottle of milk and gave it to your starving child, it is not a sacrifice; if you give it to your neighbor’s child and let your own die, it is.
“If you give money to help a friend, it is not a sacrifice; if you give it to a worthless stranger, it is. If you give your friend a sum you can afford, it is not a sacrifice; if you give him money at the cost of your own discomfort, it is only a partial virtue, according to this sort of moral standard; if you give him money at the cost of disaster to yourself that is the virtue of sacrifice in full.
“If you renounce all personal desire and dedicate your life to those you love, you do not achieve full virtue: you still retain a value of your own, which is your love. If you devote your life to random strangers, it is an act of greater virtue. If you devote your life to serving men you hate-that is the greatest of the virtues you can practice.
“A sacrifice is the surrender of a value. Full sacrifice is full surrender of all values. If you wish to achieve full virtue, you must seek no gratitude in return for your sacrifice, no praise, no love, no admiration, no self-esteem, not even the pride of being virtuous; the faintest trace of any gain dilutes your virtue. If you pursue a course of action that does not taint your life by any joy, that brings you no value in matter, no value in spirit, no gain, no profit, no reward-if you achieve this state of total zero, you have achieved the ideal of moral perfection.

Some random Winston Churchill thoughts:
Last night's Churchill Analogy rubbed me the wrong way so badly that I spent an hour of my show deconstructing Obama's retroactive morality in regards to a complete non-sequitor of an analogy.
To wit:
-Luftwaffe aircrew were no more... "detainees" ...than their JU-88s were "man-made disaster delivery devices." They were POWs. Their treatment directly affected the treatment of RAF aircrew held in Stalags across Germany.
-Churchill didn't HAVE any moral dilemma in regards to torturing these men, because they had NO actionable, timely intelligence. Historically, aviators (from the RAF to the Luftwaffe to John McCain) do NOT take off knowing anything beyond TODAY's target. This is fundamental, it's called Operational Security. You can't give up what you don't know. Remember the ubiquitous "Gentlemen...here is today's target" scene in every bomber movie? Conversely, allied aircrew (like Chuck Yeager) who were shot down and assisted by the resistance were transferred to the Pacific or back to the US because they had TOO much knowledge of the resistance network.
-Finally, and MAINLY, Churchill had access to the "ULTRA" intelligence. He knew more, before most of these crews did. Eisenhower later called it "the decisive" element of winning. In fact, Churchill had a worse moral dilemma. He knew targets before they were hit! Did he alert them and save lives? Thereby saving hundreds, but compromising the ULTRA intercepts? Nope, he saw the big picture.
If you think Churchill would've hesitated to turn the screws on a captured Staff Puke, then you know NOTHING about Winston. If this were just a drunken debate in an Irish Pub, I'd have forgotten about it. But Obama is using this misapplied Andrew Sullivan op-ed to make all of our lives more risky.

This sent a message to GM bondholders who seem interested in making a deal......
Bondholders present plan to win GM control
General Motors Corp. bondholders on Thursday presented a counteroffer to the automaker's debt swap that would relieve creditors of their $27 billion of debt in return for a majority stake in the company.
The move also aims to ease concerns over the U.S. government nationalizing the Detroit giant and comes as the Obama administration announced that rival Chrysler, which saw its negotiations with bondholders collapse, will file for bankruptcy. See full story.
bondholders said their plan would see them get 58% of the new company in return for debt forgiveness while saving U.S. taxpayers $10 billion in cash. The union health-care fund, based on the $20 billion in benefits owed, would own 41%.
