Tim Blair Phones in Another Smear
We all know that the right wing is constantly cooking up outrageous outrages about Barack Obama. But there’s also a little cottage industry of wingnut bloggers who perform the same function — directed at me.
Case in point, climate change denier and far right loon Tim Blair, who phones in another attack piece at his Australian blog to say I’m now changing my opinion about Dan Rather. Blair titles his mindless post: LITTLE DAN FOOTBALLS. Get it?
Seven years after CBS and Dan Rather were busted for airing fake memos about George W. Bush’s National Guard service, someone is making excuses: “In the case of the fake memos, CBS News wasn’t pushing something they knew to be false.”
That someone is reborn leftoid Charles Johnson, whose involvement in the case helped bring down Rather. He seems to regret it.
This quote comes from a comment in our thread about Fox News executive Bill Sammon’s promotion of the “Obama’s a socialist” meme, even though he didn’t believe it himself. Someone compared that incident to the Dan Rather/fake memos story, and I replied with the quote you see above — but as usual, the ever-dishonest Blair takes it out of context and distorts what I wrote.
Here’s the comment to which I replied:
That’s a given. “So what if Fox did it, all the ‘liberal’ news stations do it too!” My guess? They’ll point to Memogate as their proof…which, sadly, is a bit hard to argue against.
It’s different, though, because in case of the fake memos, CBS News wasn’t pushing something they knew to be false.
Notice that I didn’t even mention Dan Rather by name.
But this latest fake attack is even stupider than that, because I never claimed that Dan Rather or CBS News knew the memos were fakes. On the contrary, it’s quite clear, and always has been, that Rather and his producers were fooled by whoever created the fakes, and ran with the story without doing the proper diligence.
You really should try harder, Blair, you ignorant slut.
