Friday Night Cuteness: Tree Kangaroo Joey in Mom’s Pouch

Futile indeed. I hadn't heard of tree kangaroos before (or don't recall)...
During the late-Miocene the semi-arboreal Rock-wallabies evolved into the now extinct tree-kangaroo genus Bohra.[5] Global cooling during the Pleistocene caused continent wide drying and rainforest retractions in Australia and New Guinea.[6] The rainforest contractions isolated populations of Bohra which resulted in the evolution of today's tree-kangaroos (Dendrolagus spp.) as they adapted to lifestyles in geographically small and diverse rainforest fragments, and became further specialized for a canopy dwelling lifestyle.[7]

Gannett has put pretty much all of their papers (including the Tennessean, Nashville's only surviving daily) behind a paywall a couple of months ago. $12.00 a month for digital-only access or digital plus delivery of the dead-tree version on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the costs going up from there.

My employer let me go today. I'm not really surprised, since I specialized in defense conferences and there are none scheduled, and despite my team's best efforts, we weren't able to generate any business this month. Management didn't hate me, and they still respect me, but they don't need me anymore. But my unemployment will not be contested, and I've got co-workers who will give me references when I need them. So I should be able to be back to work before Thanksgiving, if not sooner. I am worried, but not terrified, for I know I did my utmost and only failed in not being able to climb a mountain no one could climb. My father understood what had happened and is supportive.
And any persons at other blogs intending to twist this statement or mock me should lay aside that intention. Jobs change but I leave this one a better man than when I arrive and with some real accomplishments to my credit. I hold my head high, and any haters will be ignored.

With both a member of my team and my sister facing surgery for serious conditions at the start of this month, I prayed that they should receive any good fortune intended for me so that they could get through their surgeries and recover. I feel that God answered my prayers, as they both got through fine and are now on the mend. So if the price for their being OK was that I ended up losing my job, then I consider the price fair.

I liked that movie quite a bit, and thought it was under-viewed. But it came out at a time when Sense and Sensibility stole the show, for those who would go to a movie of a drama set previous centuries. While the latter is a great movie in its own right, I thought Restoration was more arty and fun.

I have to admit, he did alright by Buddy Holly. And a performance art video from a few years ago on the subject of greenhouse gas emissions was hilarious. (IIRC he was peddling butt plugs for livestock to rural farmers, and offering free demos.) As for his brain, some reports of a motorcycle accident involving a curb may be relevent.

One thing about Restoration which I remember is the quality of the film, by which I mean the actual film medium. The choice of film stock really showed off well the colorful set and clothes, and the techniques of photography and reproduction, in an era before all-digital movies made it one of the cleanest and richest of viewing experiences in a non-animation film.

I'm so sorry.

For tonight's entertainment, we present one of the old warhorses of music, Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony, the last two parts, which really ought to be listened one after another to appreciate both:
(note that you'll have to turn up the volume - in using iTunes I have to add a 9 db gain via the equalizer)
This is from an old recording, but one considered highly. The conductor was Wilhem Furtwangler, an icon of sorts among classical music fans.

Well a 3' free fall means it took about 0.4 seconds during which time the tool accelerated to a velocity of about 15 feet per second which is oh about 15 mph. so yeah if it had a sharp edge it would have enough momentum to puncture skin.

Paul Ryan claims in a Hugh Hewitt interview to have run a sub-three hour marathon. Running enthusiasts were extremely skeptical, and it turns out they were right to be:
[Link: www.hughhewitt.com...]
My interview with Paul Ryan today was brief and interrupted cell phone failure, but interesting nonetheless.
...
I was also surprised to hear Ryan has run a sub-3 hour marathon. Add another interest group to the list of groups like Catholics, hunters and Miami of Ohio grads who are going to connect easily with this candidate.
...
HH: Are you still running?
PR: Yeah, I hurt a disc in my back, so I don’t run marathons anymore. I just run ten miles or yes.
HH: But you did run marathons at some point?
PR: Yeah, but I can’t do it anymore, because my back is just not that great.
HH: I’ve just gotta ask, what’s your personal best?
PR: Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.
HH: Holy smokes. All right, now you go down to Miami University…
PR: I was fast when I was younger, yeah.
[Link: news.runnersworld.com...]
Runner's World has been unable to find any marathon results by Ryan. Requests for more information from Ryan's Washington and Wisconsin offices, and from the Romney-Ryan campaign, have so far gone unanswered.
If Ryan has broken 3:00, he'd be the fastest marathoner to be on a national ticket.
...
In an e-mail to Runner's World last night, Tom Derderian, author of Boston Marathon, said, "It is very hard to prove a negative, but in doing my research I read every account in every newspaper about the Boston Marathon. I would have seen and noted that a US Senator ran."
And then:
Updated 7:20 pm
A spokesman for the Romney-Ryan campaign e-mailed Runner's World today to say Ryan ran Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, while a college student in 1991....
Ryan's name does not show up in the 1991 race results provided by Grandma's. Runner's World checked 11 years of results for Grandma's Marathon, from 1988 through 1998, and found a finisher in the 1990 race by the name of Paul D. Ryan, 20, of Minneapolis.
Ryan's middle name is Davis, and he was 20 in 1990. The finishing time listed was 4 hours, 1 minute and 25 seconds.
We are awaiting confirmation from the Ryan camp that the vice presidential nominee is the Paul D. Ryan listed in the race results – and, if he is, whether he ran any other marathons faster than 4:01:25.
And finally, they fessed up:
Updated 12:29 am
It turns out Paul Ryan has not run a marathon in less than three hours—or even less than four hours....
In a statement issued to Runner's World by a spokesman Friday night, Ryan said of his marathon experience:
"The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year—reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight."

Romney has a history of pointless & trivial fibs as well. For example:
[Link: blog.thephoenix.com...]
Earlier this week Red Sox season-ticket holder Mitt Romney gave a national network interview at Fenway Park. This led someone to bring to my attention that Romney, who was governor at the time, was there at Fenway Park for the historic championship-clinching Game 4 of the 2004 World Series. Or at least, he told an Air Force pilot he was:
When he told me he was Massachusett's governor, I politely asked him to leave the flight deck, declaring the cockpit off limits to all Red Sox fans. He laughed and made a few cracks my way, regarding the Yanks, and we hit it off pretty well. I asked him if he was at Fenway when the Sox finally won the World Series, and with a huge boyish grin he replied, "Yes I was."
No, he wasn't. I could go to a lot of trouble proving to you that Romney was actually in New Hampshire campaigning for George W. Bush that day, but it doesn't really matter because -- as every New Englander has been screaming while reading this post -- Game 4 was played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
...
If you haven't seen the brilliant Woody Allen film, Zelig is so desperate to fit in, he physically transforms to match the people he is around at a given time.
Romney is helplessly addicted to this type of lying, often trivial, sometimes not. I've witnessed it myself many times, and former Romney aides have expressed their frustration about it to me.
And:
Suddenly, a heavyset man wearing a bright-orange cap entered the room. “Mr. Romney,” he called out. “Eric Orff—I’m a hunter.” It was a potentially awkward moment. Earlier this year, Romney claimed that he’d “been a hunter pretty much all my life.” A few days later, he said in a statement, “I’ve hunted small game numerous times.” Four days after that, Romney told W. Gardner Selby, of the Austin American-Statesman, “Any description of my being a hunter is an overstatement of capability.”
Still, he couldn’t resist. “You’re a hunter?” he said to Orff. “Well, same here. Good to see ya.”

Easier to say you were at the most important baseball game the home state team has had in over 90 years than admitting you were campaigning for a guy who was not just unpopular in your state but also who your party runs away from. I just don't get the point of bsing like this when it's so easy to verify otherwise. Yunno, a lot of gays are financially well off: without a family to derail their careers, without the necessary investment in diapers, kids' clothing, mortgage on that four-bedroom home in a neighborhood with good schools, and college funds, they have a lot more potential to amass reasonable fortunes by investing.
All of which should make them a lot more amenable to the GOP's low-tax, small government approach.

Same for ethnic minorities.
There's a metric fuckton of conservative black people in this country -- neocon in their foreign policy outlook, anti-regulation, anti-tax, anti-abortion, pro-gun. They'd love to be able to vote for the party that agrees with them on these issues, but voter suppression is the dealbreaker. So we end up with Mitt Romney's share of the black vote being less than the poll's margin of error.
With Hispanics, it's demands to carry your birth certificate with you at all times, be prepared to repeatedly prove you have a right to exist in this space... and by the way, we're going to deport your mother. Not a winning argument.

re: #166 McSpiff
"Black people are just going to vote for the black guy anyways" is bigoted trash that has no place in political discourse. It implies that an entire race can't understand politics beyond the most base levels. If you want to try to defend that then yes, I suspect you don't like black people very much. I'd also tell you and Dork to fuck off.
It's also provably untrue.
Michael Steele, Alan Keyes, JC Watt, Ken Blackwell and other black Republicans didn't get any more black votes than the other Republicans in their districts.
In Democratic primaries, Steve Cohen (white, Jewish) trounced Nikki Tinker (black, Christian) in an overwhelmingly black christian district in Memphis. He was ahead by a little bit when she tried to make race and religion a campaign issue, and the voters recoiled in horror. It ended up being something like 85-15.

Hey CCA, My daughter delivered. She made it into and out of St. Pete, but had to do two 4-hr needle sessions. If the guy doesn't reject her stem cells, she won't have to do the needle-to-the-hip phase.
If I hadn't fallen out of a deuce and a half in 1965, a guy would die in Tampa next month. Weird.

I really did not mean it that way. What I was trying to say was that most black people are whom i have spoken to on the matter do take Obama's 2008 election as a source of pride and acceptance by America. They thus take Republican promises to repudiate Obama's furniture accomplishments as repudiation of the victory that made so pleased them.
This is still a massively fucked-up way of looking at it. You're choosing to look at this through the lens of pride, as though that's the only goddamn motivator.
The anti-black policies of the GOP are the reason why most blacks don't vote GOP. It's fucking simple. That's why Obama's share of the black vote in the national election was extremely close to Kerry's.

Daughter1's trip to a Tampa clinic to give stemcells/bone marrow. My 4 kids only exist because I fell out of an Army truck. It's complicated, and meaningless in the end.

Don't know the sci-fi, the motto sticks form a Foreign Legion story somewhere, also used in a Gene Hackman FL movie. One of our small airborne units working out of Italy also uses it.
This would be a good time to do a 90 degree career change if you're young enough. DoD is due for a cyclic dry-out no matter who wins the election. Sounds like you could work the business or even leisure environments-- "conference-in-a-can". The greatest joy of course is to go into competition with your old shop.

So you're half my age. I didn't start my 'grownup' career until I was 32. It (Army Civilian) was way more than 90 degrees from Anthropology/Archaeology. The key was to fit into a large organization with a commitment to employee training and development. Can't say that our modern post-intelligent culture will support that.

Pournelle's The Mercenary series of books is set in a universe in which the USA and USSR came together in the late 20th Century to form an Earth dominating alliance called the CoDominium (the coming together has never been exactly laid out and was the subject of a 1990's retcon by Pournelle). Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel is discovered in 2004, and humanity expands outward from Earth, with the "CoDo" enforcing itself with its Marine regiments. The main combat elements are called Line Marines and are modeled after the French Foreign Legion. They use "March or Die" as one of their slogans.
This line is the early part of a larger series that includes the far-future Sci-Fi novel The Mote in God's Eye. The CoDominium era of the fictional-universe ends in 2100, with the dissolution of the CoDo and the USA and USSR going to war with each other. They succeed only in nuking Earth nine shades past reality, and it is centuries before the Mother World is even semi-habitable again.

When I was 34, I quit my job as a high school English teacher to take a job doing technical training for a software company (My annual salary skyrocketed 13 years up the teacher salary scale from 28K to 45K). It was scary, because I wasn't sure I was technical enough to learn the material and then be able to teach it. And this was just an entry level training position, sure, but I was a teacher so it seemed like a good foot through the door. Over the next few years, I learned a bit about how to test software (from my students, who had real world problems they needed solving, and not sample program exercises), and got good at using the tools. At 36, my company sent me to the UK to set up their training department and to train some partner resellers in Germany. Two years later I came back to the states and began working for former customers as a testing engineer. Today (14 years later), I'm a QA Director for a start up. Just took this job three weeks ago and I'm nervous as hell as it's in an industry (online marketing) about which I know very little. But hey, life's an adventure, right?
So don't give me that "I'm too old at 34 to change" shit. This is motherfuckin' America. Anything is possible. And one of these days I'm going to be rich enough to go back to teaching high school English...because I fucking love that shit.

Clint doesn't give a fuck what people say about him. He got up and fed the GOP some red meat, which is why they asked him to come. It didn't backfire on him, it backfired on Mitt Romney, who looked like the idiot for not controlling the message for his last 60 minutes.
And you could tell Romney knew he'd fucked up with Eastwood, because he raced through his speech, skipping over applause breaks and heating up the teleprompter from the friction of the words scrolling by to keep up with him. He cut a few minutes off his planned delivery. That's called letting them see you sweat and it isn't presidential.

"He just told me to, um, there's assistance out there," Chiarello said of her conversation with Romney. "He said, go home and call 211." That's a public service number offered in many states.
Chiarello said she will likely seek some other shelter because her home was submerged in the flooding. She expressed frustration about the town's lack of flood protection.
As I said elsewhere, Romney's problem isn't that he can't connect with regular and poor folk...it's that he has such disdain for them that he can't help but show it. He probably thinks he was offering her solid advice.

You have to take courses to be a teacher here and the money for those is not available. I will ask some friends I have who are teachers, though. But I see that as a longer term option; Right now Illinois school districts outside of Chicago aren't hiring much. Not to pick on DF here...lots of people know MUCH less about Romney, even after this week. This goes back to the idea being promoted on Breitbart that the much lower TV ratings than McCain got 4 years ago are no problem, since the less people know about Romney the more they like him.

34 is not to late at all.
I just turned 40 and am starting something entirely new. Learning pretty much from the beginning stages. I've always wanted to get into film making, documentaries in particular. Last month after watching a movie I just decided 'you know what I should just get on with it'. So I sat down and thought it through, put out some queries about an idea I had that was met with lots of enthusiasm, formulated a 6 month plan, got a joe job waitressing to earn some extra cash to fund it and now much to my delight
I'm well on my way to actually doing it. I've been going to 'school' on the internet as well as getting some help from real people. If all goes well in the spring I'll be travelling for 3 months on a film project in Europe. Something I never even imagined doing 2 months ago.
Awesome! Have fun and enjoy yourself!

Good point...Mitt's whole campaign strategy is based on his being as opaque as possible until it's too late. Then, after he takes office, we'll get to know the real Mitt Romney and get this company* called the United States of America back on its feet again.
* That's what Mitt called the US yesterday...a company.

Yeah, I may be talking to a chair, but there are others who are 34 who might think it's too late for a career change...so yell I must.
Heck, last year (at age 45), I seriously looked into what I'd need to do to become a P.A. With two young children, husband with a job he loves, and a bunch of student loans that we are currently paying off, it wasn't feasible to spend that kind of money only to not be able to get into the program in my city (only 26 spots a year with thousands applying) and moving was out of the question. Too bad they didn't have a program in my city for this when I was 34...that would have been another story entirely.

Well… I’m still here.
I have grown my fluffy coat for the cold winter, like a Tsar’s robe.
It requires a certain delicate maintenance.
I am free to go. Yet I remain.
The 15 hours a day I sleep have no effect.
I wake to the same tedium.
Immortalized on the wall. (Tournée Du Chat Noir De Rodolphe Salis)
Forgotten on the floor.
When my caretakers step here they become irate.
Yet I feel nothing.
They leave tasty snacks just out of reach.
They taunt me mercilessly.
I alone feel this torment.
The white idiot writhes on his chair, begging for cheeseburgers.
I’m surrounded by morons.
“Pay attention to the cat.”
Not that they ever do.
Still, I have learned a few things.
The whipped cream in the bathroom is not whipped cream.
We cannot escape ourselves.
And sometimes the cat door… is closed.

I'm not going to argue about the political end of this, but what you describe is not legal. I have a feeling the tribalism you describe is based on your online experience and your own framing. I live in the reddest part of north GA and the only politics foisted on teachers is by parents. Trust me on this one,our school board is as GOP as it gets, but it's not required of anyone to support a political party.Besides, you wouldn't have to teach full time, you could be a substitute or teach continuing education classes or GED classes. Or,what about being an interpretive park ranger? Those are the people that take park visitors on tours of historic battle sites and things like that. You might not get rich, but you'd be doing something you love, which is a rare thing in this world. And 34 is NOT old. I'm 52 and I've been out of the workforce for almost 20 yrs. I have to start over and figure out what to do at my age. I'll admit,I'm scared but I don't think it's too late.
I really want to get you to seriously think about it,history is a love of yours,we NEED people who have passion in the classroom, now more than ever. There is grant money out there for teaching certificate programs, along with other money so you wouldn't have to take on a big financial burden.

NUCLEAR ISSUE
Press TV: “I have condemned the threats by any member state to destroy or delegitimize another. I have reminded the leaders...throughout the world to lower the volume and stop the provocation that can lead the area down a slippery slope of conflict....It is time for more reason and responsibility. I urge you all to resolve differences through peaceful means.”
Ban Ki-Moon: "For the sake of peace and security in this region and globally, I urge the Government of Iran to take the necessary measures to build international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme.
"This can be done by fully complying with the relevant Security Council resolutions and thoroughly cooperating with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency].
"I urge, also, constructive engagement with the P5+1 [US-UK-France-Germany-Russia-China] to quickly reach a diplomatic solution.
"And I urge all the parties to stop provocative and inflammatory threats. A war of words can quickly spiral into a war of violence. Bluster can so easily become bloodshed. Now is the time for all leaders to use their voices to lower, not raise, tensions."
...
HUMAN RIGHTS
Press TV: No Comment
Ban Ki-Moon: "I urge you to unite as well to promote and protect the values embedded in the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including freedom of expression and freedom of association.
"For much of your membership, this internal effort should be the next frontier of action for your people."

Thinking about history, today is the 73rd anniversary of the start of what we refer to as WWII in the west as Hitler attacked Poland after staging a fake attack on Germany.
Arguably though the war ran from 28 June 1914 to 9 November 1989. One long war with some periods hotter, some colder and changing allegiances but a single war that ripped the world apart. 75 years of us doing our damnedest to destroy everyone and every thing.

This is what I've been saying for a while...
But you can see that Romney is uncomfortable with this positioning. You can see this isn’t how he wanted it. Every once in a while—when he’s momentarily startled by the raucous Republican response to one of his coded Obama-is-foreign lines, say, or when he gets heckled—you can see real fear in Romney’s eyes. It’s the fear of someone who suddenly realized he let himself get too drunk, or nearly got into a car accident because he was dopily roaming his hand around the floor of the car, looking for the sandwich he dropped. Someone who spent his whole life chasing something, only to find that he really didn’t want it. Not like this. Never like this. Romney wanted Republicans to volunteer their respect for him with wild abandon and recognize him as a champion for his party, not to pander or be told what he’s supposed to be—that’s the opposite of leading. And then he sets his jaw for a second, and his eyes go back into half-vacant campaigning mode and the smile pops on and he gets back into it, because it’s what he’s been trained to do.
The whole article is very good...read it.

It's hard to accept. Somewhere between 9:58 and 10:16 this morning, the dingos were active.
Please, join in my pity party. Give me the illusion that someone feels my pain, even if just for a moment. I do the same for you.
I feel your pain. I only had that happen to me a couple of times before I started writing my posts in an editor and then 'cut-n-paste'ing them into my browser.

Were did this come from?
I countered a statement you made and answered a question you asked, it's as simple as that.
Nobody singled out D_F because of his political views, he was singled out because he made a sincere and emotionally evocative comment about his job loss. His politics, and the commenter's, were mentioned because D_F mentioned the politics in the education system.

D_F, you're intelligent and capable, you'll do OK. Before you consider becoming a teacher, consider how comfortable you are in front of groups and how well you can communicate to a diverse group of people. If you are comfortable in that environment, your love of history would do you well in teaching. You might also think about writing a book over the next few years.

Not in his mind. Also since it was a small workshop of about 12 employees he might have been legally allowed to discriminate. I never explored my legal options or made a big deal out of it. The money used by the government is no more their personal money than is the money they give to Walmart for that hair removal product or to pay the kid next door for shovelling snow. The money the government uses can be viewed as the public's money so concerns that it not be wasted are valid, but not as an individual's money.

A convention should have some drama. Clint, as much fun as he was, can't carry it all.

Welcome to 'Panthers Stadium' (UPDATED)
436 | Kragar Sat, Sep 1, 2012 12:32:09pm |
In final interview, Cardinal says Church "200 years out of date"
"Our culture has aged, our churches are big and empty and the church bureaucracy rises up, our rituals and our cassocks are pompous," Martini said in the interview published in Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
"The Church must admit its mistakes and begin a radical change, starting from the pope and the bishops. The pedophilia scandals oblige us to take a journey of transformation," he said in the interview.
In the last decade the Church has been accused of failing to fully address a series of child abuse scandals which have undermined its status as a moral arbiter, though it has paid many millions in compensation settlements worldwide.
Martini, famous for comments that the use of condoms could be acceptable in some cases, told interviewers the Church should open up to new kinds of families or risk losing its flock.
"A woman is abandoned by her husband and finds a new companion to look after her and her children. A second love succeeds. If this family is discriminated against, not just the mother will be cut off but also her children."
In this way "the Church loses the future generation", Martini said in the interview, made a fortnight before he died. The Vatican opposes divorce and forbids contraception in favor of fidelity within marriage and abstinence without.

Romney likens the election to football: ‘It’s time to get a new coach’
I think he meant to say "It's time to get a new couch."
Ooh, I love a good analogy.
Why don't we stretch it out and say the entire national discourse is being represented as a football game?
I would see it as follows:
- The "teams" are not Republican vs. Democrat, rather a U.S. team consisting of BOTH Right and Left leaning players AND an opposing team, representing the various outside forces the country has to deal with (foreign diplomacy, international markets, military actions, etc.).
- The Red/Blue American team SHOULD work together to help keep the foreign team under control. After all, we don't want them running up the score. Working together will also ensure that America makes our best effort to score points when the opportunity exists. The cheering fans in the stadium represent the American people, who should be applauding the efforts of their Red/Blue team as it scores points towards advances in science, education, economics and so forth.
But that's not what happening.
- The Red players on the American team are not only accusing the U.S. coach of being a secret agent for the opposing team, they are also fighting among themselves over who gets to hog the ball the most. All the Red players are convinced they've scored way more touchdowns and yards than any other players regardless of what the actual statistics are and, instead of working with the Blue players, they are sabotaging them at every turn then blaming the very same players when the opposing team starts racking up points.
- These same Red Players are also claiming they can stop this from happening by continuing to do the EXACT SAME THING.
- The Blue players are trying to convince the fans in the stadium and the observers on the sidelines (media) that the Red guys are out of control and don't really have a workable plan. They are willing to work with the Reds on a playbook but the Reds are refusing to budge.
- The coach, The President, also has a playbook and while he has tried to teach his team some creative new plays, the Red guys refuse to play along or even offer a compromise. They insist on sticking to the same playbook the team has used for a long time, despite it's spotty track record of results.
- So the game is a mess. The American team looks at times inept and other times somewhat cohesive, the opposing team sometimes gains an advantage and other times loses it. It's a constant back and forth.
- Then you have the people in the stands. The people of America. These people are booing and hurling catcalls at just about everybody on the field because they are sick and tired of the same sloppy game without any real change despite the obvious problems.
- Oh and let's not forget the crooked officials, who represent wealthy business leaders. These people, while appearing to be neutral, are in fact in the employ of BOTH teams and virtually always base their calls not on the actual established rules (laws/legislation) but on whatever outcome benefits them and their preferred team the most.

A Queens man was arrested by police yesterday after neighbors complained about him shooting into the air in front of his building—and cops found an insane weapons arsenal at his home. Michael Millazzo, 53, was arrested Friday morning at his home in Astoria. Cops recovered two handguns, 26 magazines, 10,537 rounds of ammunition, 32 machetes, 60 knives, 16 air pistols, an air rifle, seven tasers, eight brass knuckles, nine batons and 10 handcuffs at his place. “Eight cops were going in there like they were going for Osama bin Laden. When I saw what they came out with, I said, 'Is all this stuff real?'" Millazzo’s neighbor, Greg Alevreas, told the News.
"He's not all there. He's just odd," Alevreas added.Millazzo, whose apartment is plastered with weapons and military-related stickers (include NRA ones), has one prior arrest in October 2004 for having five rifles and a handgun. He also has an 18-month-old daughter. Alevreas said residents were relieved he was arrested: “We’re happy that he’s gone away. If he came out and shot in the air, what’s he going to do next time?”

I had weird blurred vision and went to the ophthalmologist. They discovered that I had narrowed angles and performed a laser iridotomy to put holes in my iris so the fluid in my eye could circulate well. I don't want them to grow up thinking smoking is okay, plus I'd like to be around for them when they graduate. My mom died two years ago of lung cancer from smoking. She was 62. My youngest will be 21 when I'm 62. I don't want her to have to deal with losing her mother at a young age.

Why did I google that?
That's actually could be it. I've also had sinus congestion that I've just gotten used to.
Loss of central vision is what sent me to the doctor and then the hospital several years ago during my hypertensive crisis. If you catch it early enough the papilledema will reverse itself. If it is high bp you want to get it treated ASAP though because of the risk to your other organs. I got really lucky, they call high bp the silent killer for a reason. Don't fuck around and get yourself checked out, delaying treatment can only lead to bad things.

Love the Chantix it's how I quit last time. The best part is the drugs gave me fantasic dreams. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover it. Last time I paid for it myself.
This time, I'm not having the vivid dreams. You are lucky about having fantastic dreams. Mine were nightmares with all sorts of blood and gore and terrible things happening to my loved ones.
The Chantix definitely helps with the terrible mood one is in when quitting, but I snapped yesterday.
Sattv4u: If you are here, I'm sorry I called you an ass yesterday. I let you get under my skin and I resorted to name calling. I do apologize.

That was my vision problem, blurriness in my central vision. I was a bit freaked out because my grandmother had macular degeneration and was basically blind the last couple of years of her life.
High blood pressure is not something to fool around with. Glad you got it treated before you had a heart attack or stroke.

Thanks, but not even a problem

It's really, really hard, but I promise that these days I don't even feel temptation to smoke.

Quit cold turkey about 25 years ago,, 1st try ever
Was smoking 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day
Threw half a pack out a van window as me and 4 friends were going cross country. Never have had an urge since, even though the other 4 in the van continued smoking (two of them still, to this day)
