The Weiner Campign may be trying to fail:

Now, Team Weiner is firing back. TPM called Weiner’s communications director Barbara Morgan to discuss an unrelated story Tuesday and she went off on a curse-filled rant about Nuzzi, describing her as a fame hungry “bitch” who “sucked” at her job. Morgan also called Nuzzi a “slutbag,” “twat,” and “****” while threatening to sue her.

They’re hopeless. I think the only way to counter all this moronic nonsense is to start pushing for better funding for all levels of our educational system. It might not have an immediate effect, but then again, this level of stupid wasn’t always worshiped in the US, it took time for it to get like this. Wingnuts started their rise to power by taking over local school boards and the like. I think that’s going to be the key to taking things back from them.

I couldn’t do the Twitter thing like you do, I’d have to throw myself into oncoming traffic it would be so depressing.

Teh thug Obama squashed Grayson’s hearing Chicago style!
//

WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) has announced that tomorrow’s Bipartisan Ad Hoc Hearing on Domestic Surveillance will be postponed until early September. The ad hoc hearing was initially set to take place tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Planned witnesses included Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian (via satellite); Julian Sanchez, Research Fellow at the Cato Institute; Michelle Richardson, Legislative Counsel at the ACLU; Yochai Benkler, Berkman Professor of Entrepreneurial Legal Studies at Harvard; and J. Kirk Wiebe, a former NSA senior analyst.

“Tomorrow’s ad hoc hearing would have conflicted with the President’s recently-announced meeting with the House Democratic Caucus,” Grayson explained. “As a result, we are reluctantly postponing it until Congress reconvenes in September. The American people want Congress to explore the legality, constitutionality, drawbacks, and supposed benefits of domestic surveillance - and we will ensure that these issues are evaluated at our ad hoc hearing in September.”

BREAKING…. NEW…. UNBELIEVABLE….

And yet all the usual caveats apply to this and all the rest of Greenwald’s hyperventilating.

One must still need a warrant to conduct searches of US citizens and the NSA can do as it wants with foreigners (they’re not protected by US law - and spycraft is something all governments do as a matter of right and course - how they do it may vary, and institutional protections vary greatly as some governments have no problem spying on their own citizens while others require scrutiny/warrants).

Greenwald once again is going off on a theoretical possibility that someone could conduct these searches without any authorizations or warrants.

The IOC will never do anything that endangers the flow of bribe money into their pockets. That’s the only thing they exist for anymore.

The best thing that could happen is for the US to pull of of this and all future olympics until the IOC is replaced. Won’t happen though. In the meantime, I am still so glad that Chicago lost their Olympics bid and thus won’t waste the money on facilities that will never be paid off. I really feel sorry for the people of Brazil who are getting fucked over to pay for yet another waste of money.

It amazes me since they’re just so unlikable. I mean I couldn’t have voted for Bush or McCain but I can see why people liked them as people, Bush is fairly personable and self-depreciating and McCain has the war hero status which is something very easy to respect across ideological lines? But Romney and his sons? Well, I stand by my statement that young Mitt Romney would have been the WASPy villain in my hypothetical 1960’s coming of age story.

I’ve just been too busy to spend much time here. Not that anyone is going to miss me much since I’m a newbie. :-) But I have been reading the front page.

I saw the article about Greenbeck on ‘This Week’ saying that the NSA has all of your phone calls, emails, Word documents, etc. I just don’t see how Greenbeck has not been ridiculed off of the stage at this point. What he is saying is simply not true. I see he has some follow-up article today. I refuse to even read his BS, so I will see what others have to say about that.

And when I see a headline on NBC like this today, “Assange: Manning verdicts a ‘clear abuse’ of First Amendment rights”, my first response is ‘FUCK Assange’, and Manning, Sowdum, and Greenbeck right along with him.

Arggghhh.

Children Used on the Front-line of Islamist Demonstrations

Shocking footage has emerged of Egyptian children being dressed in white ‘death shrouds’ in preparation for their ‘martyrdom’ by pro-Morsi families in a large demonstration at Rabaa al-Adaweya.

The children were heard chanting pre-rehearsed lines and were seen carrying posters that say “I am ready to die!” during a short march.

This is not the first time that such images have emerged, however media and government attention over the issue remains spotty, as debates over politics have quickly overshadowed social problems plaguing Egypt.

Under both international and local law, using children under 18 years as a tool for politics and placing these children at severe risk of death or injury is illegal.

Apparently the RWNJs believe Dr. Howard Dean affirmed there are death panels. Has anyone else seen this “news”?

Here is his original oped: online.wsj.com

Here is the teatard reaction: google.com

Here is what he said:

The IPAB is essentially a health-care rationing body.

In fact Dean is insisting that the IPAB must be done away with.

Here is the context of what he said:

One major problem is the so-called Independent Payment Advisory Board. The IPAB is essentially a health-care rationing body. By setting doctor reimbursement rates for Medicare and determining which procedures and drugs will be covered and at what price, the IPAB will be able to stop certain treatments its members do not favor by simply setting rates to levels where no doctor or hospital will perform them.

Fuckin’ context, how does it work? Wingnuts have no clue.

I have worked in health care for over 15 years and health insurance companies have always determined reimbursement rates and which procedures and drugs will be covered and at what price. Teatards for some reason welcome that.

Howard Dean may not be totally unbiased

Howard Dean Defends His Work For Lobbying Firm After Backlash

Since his career in politics ended, Dean has found a home in the K Street establishment he once held in such disdain. He’s a strategic adviser to McKenna, Long, and Aldridge, a major Washington lobbying firm whose clients have included health care and pharmaceutical companies. Dean has never registered as a lobbyist, as far as I know, but the distinction is largely illusory. In 2009, one CEO told the publication BioCentury that Dean was “very helpful” in their efforts to loosen federal regulations on drug development.” Another said that “Dean has been a great addition to our team.”

It looks like he still is.

This is timely considering the “concern” expressed about a Lewinsky sex tape:

Sliming Hillary through Huma

One week into Round Two of the Anthony Weiner embarrassment, mainstream media figures are reminding us that to them, the single most important fact about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is that her husband cheated on her. No matter that she’s been the two-term senator from New York and a presidential candidate who won 18 million votes, along with serving a term as Barack Obama’s secretary of state. She will always first and foremost be the wronged wife (who might have been to blame for her husband’s transgressions since she didn’t divorce him.)

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners on Wednesday released an order approving the former NFL star’s parole request.

Everywhere that the right wing/socons have tried to curb funding to PP, they’ve run into legal roadblocks that have found that the states can’t discriminate in funding health care providers in the way that they’re doing.

But that isn’t keeping them from trying some more, in the hopes that one of the attempts might stick and become the benchmark on which to fashion/fix their other attempts.

Fox News’ Neil Cavuto Doesn’t Know How Inflation Works

That’s a good story. But the math makes the opposite point Cavuto intended—adjusted for inflation, he made a lot more money as a teenager than the fast food employees who walked off their jobs in seven US cities this week. Cavuto says he made $2 per hour when he was 16, which would have been around late 1974. That’s $9.47 per hour in today’s dollars—or $.28 per hour more than Washington state’s minimum wage, which is the nation’s highest. Cavuto made the equivalent of $1.02 per hour more than the current minimum wage in Connecticut today and $2.22 per hour more than the current federal minimum wage. His starting wage was $2.17 more than Saavedra Jantuah made at the Burger King on 34th St. in New York City before she walked off the job in protest last November because she was unable to feed her son.

Cavuto’s riff also misses the larger point, which is that the living-wage fight isn’t about 16-year-olds with no kids whose parents cover their basic living expenses. The median fast food worker is 28 years old, and the median female fast food worker is 32. Their wages have dropped an average of 36 cents since 2010. And they’re making less than Neil Cavuto ever did.

An official from St. Petersburg, Russia has declared that the country’s new anti-LGBT laws will apply to guests and athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In an interview with The Echo of Moscow radio, Vitaly Milanov, author of the St. Petersburg “anti-LGBT propaganda law,” said that he has no reason to suspect that guests and athletes will be granted exceptions under the rule. It brings to mind the old saying about insanity. Really if GOP voters think their problem is they’re not right wing enough, then they’re pretty much going to doom their party to be a regional party. The growth they’ve had the past decade has been in places like West Virginia which are older areas losing population.

At that point, the Police Officers and the Military should just be removing the kids. This is pure and simple child endangerment.

Russian official: Anti-LGBT laws will apply to Olympic athletes and guests

An official from St. Petersburg, Russia has declared that the country’s new anti-LGBT laws will apply to guests and athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In an interview with The Echo of Moscow radio, Vitaly Milanov, author of the St. Petersburg “anti-LGBT propaganda law,” said that he has no reason to suspect that guests and athletes will be granted exceptions under the rule. He also went on to vouch for the sterling heterosexual credentials of the men of Russia’s figure skating team.

I’m not normally boycott minded, but this is a case where I make an exception.

For some reason, that sentence I bolded made me laugh at loud.

I’m trying to slog through Greenwald’s latest over-hyped article, but my eyes keep glazing over. Somehow Greenwald manages to make his writing turgid and boring, yet at the same time exaggerated and hysterical. Quite a feat.

What’s clear is that once again, he’s deliberately misleading people. He’s describing a system that is specifically targeted at NON-US citizens, BY LAW, and dishonestly implying that it is being used against US citizens just because they COULD.

And this article does NOT support Snowden’s assertion that he could “wiretap the President.” Not even close.

Yep. Really having had gay friends and relatives, this is something I am just glad to see people becoming more open-minded on. What’s even cooler is to the kids, it’s becoming even less of an issue. My 12 year old brother and many of his friends are a lot more open-minded on the issue than many of me and my friends were at that same age. Really, it brings to mind the crux of MLK’s Dream- not on the color of their skin (or in this case their sexuality) but the content of their character. Seeing gay people who just want the same rights as me under the law being called perverts and in some case even likened to Nazis makes me ill.

A lot of anti-Islam shit— even stuff that’s about legitimate horrible shit being done by Muslims— is sourced in white supremacists, christian identity fuckers, EDL bastards, and other such assholes. Take the time to source your links, and you can avoid linking to fanatical morons.

This is kind of like Drudge’s constant anti-black shit. Most of his stories come from completely legitimate sources, but by plastering them all over, all the time, he creates this outside image of black-on-white violence that just isn’t true. Context matters. Sources matter.

Which is funny since most of the atheists I’ve known have been very let live, Fundamentalist zealot Christians like the nutcase in the story though on the other hand. Sebelius shouldn’t have gotten involved in the first place, because the UNOS OPTN system was set up to prioritize who gets organs because there simply aren’t enough donors; the older system left more people waiting and didn’t efficiently distribute organs based on need - which is set by medical criteria that also happens to include age. A federal judge on Wednesday ordered HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to allow 10-year-old Sarah Murnaghan to be moved to the adult lung transplant list, giving her a better chance of receiving a potentially life-saving transplant.
The quick and unusual ruling, made after a hastily scheduled emergency hearing, follows a campaign by the family and some members of Congress to pressure the Obama administration to change a federal policy that puts children under age 12 at the bottom of the list of those who can receive donated adult lungs.

Just an FYI to everyone who responds to Teh Derp on Twitter:

Always put a period . before the .@wingnut you are responding to so that your Tweet goes out to everyone who’s following, otherwise it will just be seen by that wingnut.

There is also allegedly some kind of “reply trap” they can use to get you sent to TwitterGulag, something I learned about from TGDN so it may be complete BS.

Sebelius and death panelz of course. Ignoring that insurance companies are making these decisions every day in denying coverages without so much scrutiny, or that every health care provider has to address whether a given treatment is effective and worthwhile.

Of course. When an insurance company denies coverage for a treatment, “it’s the free market at work!” When you can’t get that treatment due to government guidelines, “DEATH PANELS!!!”
