Trump Is Now Claiming the Access Hollywood Tape Was a Fake

Gaslighting taken to a whole new level
Politics • Views: 37,487

This New York Times article on Trump’s disgusting support for accused child molester Roy Moore contains a real jaw-dropper on another subject.

Because the grotesque narcissistic braggart in the White House is reportedly now trying to claim that the infamous Access Hollywood “grab ‘em by the pussy” tape is a fake.

As Mr. Moore has rejected calls to drop out even as more women have accused him of preying on them when they were teenagers, Republicans have given up any hope that he will fold his campaign. Mr. Trump has repeatedly told his aides that he does not believe Mr. Moore would ever quit.

What the president did not foresee was that the friction would reach inside his immediate family. He vented his annoyance when his daughter Ivanka castigated Mr. Moore by saying there was “a special place in hell for people who prey on children,” according to three staff members who heard his comments.

“Do you believe this?” Mr. Trump asked several aides in the Oval Office. Mr. Moore’s Democratic opponent in the Alabama race, Doug Jones, quickly turned her comments into a campaign ad.

But something deeper has been consuming Mr. Trump. He sees the calls for Mr. Moore to step aside as a version of the response to the now-famous “Access Hollywood” tape, in which he boasted about grabbing women’s genitalia, and the flood of groping accusations against him that followed soon after. He suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic, and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently. (In the hours after it was revealed in October 2016, Mr. Trump acknowledged that the voice was his, and he apologized.)

Well, I see they’re going to play Musical Chairs at the CFPM Monday Morning. Cordray’s appointed successor is going to sue Dolt 45.

Lawyers for Leandra English, whom Cordray named the effective acting director when he resigned on Friday, filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia seeking to halt the appointment of Mulvaney, who serves as head of the Office of Management and Budget and is also named in the lawsuit.

While I was looking at stuff, I found this robotic arm that can be used for doing a number of tasks, 3D printing, soldering, laser etching, assembly line work. Out of my price and need range, but if you were starting a business building products, a few of these would be great.

Time Inc Sold to Meredith Corp in Deal Bankrolled by Koch Brothers

In a $1.84 billion deal, Meredith Corp is reportedly buying Time Inc in a cash agreement bankrolled by the famous — or, to some, infamous — conservative billionaires Koch brothers.

Charles Koch and David Koch are making the move to obtain the publisher of popular magazines Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and Time after Meredith failed to obtain the multinational mass media corporation in 2013, reports Reuters.

The magazines currently published by Meredith are highly profitable and include niche publications such as Better Homes and Gardens, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and Traditional Home. However, acquiring Time Inc with the help of the Koch brothers will give their media group access to a total readership of over 130 million and a subscription circulation of close to 60 million, per Reuters.

Trump pulling shit like possibly denying the grab-them-by-the-pussy tape is one reason I compared him to Tony Soprano, season 6 (albeit a very very stupid Tony). Near the end of the series, while in therapy with Melfi, Tony denies the whole key storyline from season 1. Never happened. “My mother tried to kill me? What are you talking about?”

That constant revising of history is a key trait of malignant narcissism.

I kind of agree with you. But I won’t accept an immediate resignation that will just allow an even easier push to destroy the entire social safety net + the environment + civil rights. I’m going to need some public restitution, some counseling, and a pledge not to run for re-election, which then allows the district to get someone actually ready to take over the seat.

Your way really does hand Repubs the entire game. And I can’t even say I don’t understand the sentiment, just think the proposed solution is the absolute worst way to handle it.

The episode was called “In the Pale Moonlight

“In the Pale Moonlight” is the 143rd episode of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the 19th of the sixth season. It originally aired on April 15, 1998, in broadcast syndication.
The title comes from a saying that “in the pale moonlight” is where one dances with the devil.
In this episode, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) works with Elim Garak (Andrew Robinson) to trick the Romulans into joining the war against the Dominion.

Also from the Wikipedia article - Andrew Robinson talks about the episode:

In an interview in 2011, when talking about “In the Pale Moonlight”, Robinson compared Starfleet to Americans in general. He said “we’re not really willing to take the consequences of our actions, and sometimes we have to do very dirty things, and we have to hurt people, and we pretend that that doesn’t exist, that Americans would never do that. We dealt with issues like that and I don’t think… you know… the other shows really went as far as we did.”[7]

I’d like to believe that too, but I don’t. Look at the demographic: Mostly white guys who partied in the 70s–90s. As that changes, and it needs to, then change will happen. But right now, I think that there are a whole bunch of people, both D and R, who could be credibly accused. We need a process to handle them, and there is one: the Ethics Committee. As to Pelosi’s delay, I strongly suspect she had not yet convinced him not to fight back, and wanted to make sure it was voluntary on the surface. It’s not, of course, but I think Pelosi is being smart (as usual). She’s drawing on a very long line of credit earned on progressive issues, especially those that affect women’s control; I suggest cutting her some slack, at least for now.

Tufts postpones Scaramucci event after he threatens to sue student, paper

Tufts University postponed a Monday event featuring Anthony Scaramucci, a former Trump White House spokesman, after he threatened to sue a student and the school newspaper for defamation following the publication of an op-ed column criticizing him.

Scaramucci, a Tufts graduate, has served on an advisory board at Tufts’ Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy since 2016.

Well, maybe Time will finally start covering the arts a bit. For all the Koches’ assholery, at least they do put money into the arts. It will be nice having some decent statuary for the zombie apocalypse. Or a good string quartet for when the ship of state sinks below the icy waves.

This looks like something my aunt could concoct for a Baptist church pot-luck supper. Her entire culinary repertoire seemed to come out of 1950s home making magazines, where food companies seemed to be in some kind of contest to develop the weirdest ways to make use of their particular product. Jello was especially big in this sub-culture. There were recipes that combined Jello with tuna and even vegetables in all kinds of diabolically ingenious creations. They even had a fish shaped jello mold for this. The same aunt was also big on condensed mushroom soup, not as actual soup, but as the semi-liquid medium for various mixtures of tuna, pasta, and other ingredients. I protested that mushrooms were related to athlete’s foot, both being fungi, but these complaints fell on deaf ears. 17 Horrifyingly Disgusting Retro Gelatin Recipes

Our reporter and his editors agonized over the tone and content of the article. The point of the story was not to normalize anything but to describe the degree to which hate and extremism have become far more normal in American life than many of us want to think.

We described Mr. Hovater as a bigot, a Nazi sympathizer who posted images on Facebook of a Nazi-like America full of happy white people and swastikas everywhere.

We understand that some readers wanted more pushback, and we hear that loud and clear.

Delegitimize further scrutiny against him and his family.

Claim that anything the media releases, including stuff where he’s on tape, is bogus, edited, or otherwise suspect, which is enough to give his base reason to believe anything he says is accurate.

That’s why he’s doing it.

He’s setting the stage for more bad conduct - and when the media calls him out using his own words, he’s going to claim it’s a lie (it isn’t, but his supporters don’t care).

It’s why his supporters think all the Russia-Trump stuff is deep state bullshit, and not a real scandal. They think that entrenched bureaucracy at State or other federal agencies are only interested in protecting themselves, not the nation, and that Trump’s doing what needs to be done.

Friends, Lizards, Footballers. Welcome to the interim monday after the all american pig out.

I once heard some stand up comedian: “all year you look forward to going home for thanksgiving then 30 minutes after arriving you remember why you live 3000 miles away” Aside from the excuse to get everyone together, i really could do without the whitewashed mythos and feigned seasonality of the whole thing. Nevertheless.

I think maybe i just learned a thing or two over thanksgiving. Probably over obvious. And i’d guess you’ve known it all along and are gonna say “what’s with this guy, its so obvious”. And it’s this:

Just like so many other things, the world is not like me and my little corner of it.

Everyone doesn’t have a good family that gets along. Avoids or doesnt talk politics. All like each other, enjoy each other’s company, and want to be together…..

And have the wherewithal to travel and meet up. Buy and cook heaps of food we choose, like, and are willing to experiment with…

This is not all privilege. Some is. Most is years of hard work, planning, saving, preparing by all of the danger clan. Some is dumb luck. So I’m able. We’re able. *And* we get along.

Everyone’s situation is different, as i’ve read aloud and between the lines here over the last few days. ( {teleskiguy} )

By circumstance of location, income, family situation, age, whatever, people have been together, or alone, had feasts or snacks, or nothing “traditional” at all. Some of you are (gasp) not even celebrants because its not your holiday. the world is not the u.s.

So i am reminded yet again, the lgf world, like the big world is not monolithic. It is not all like me and mine.

That makes both worlds great. And that’s just fine.

Steven Chapman of the Chicago Tribune made that very point — he said that Biden is too old :

At some point, people who have long seen a president in the mirror need to acknowledge their time has passed and make way for younger candidates. Neither the Democratic nor the Republican Party has any shortage of talented and ambitious officeholders. In 2020, voters should have a choice of two of them.

8 years old. Took 30 minutes for locksmiths and the Fire Department to get the little guy out. Ruined the safe in the process. Since it was new, the combination and other paperwork were probably inside with the kid. Even so, most new safes have a default combination of either 25-50-25 or 50-25-50 so sales people can always open them. The customer then resets it at home after purchase. Apparently not the case this time.

‘I thought I was going to die’: Shoppers in terror as off-duty officer kills armed man at Lenexa Costco

A man who brandished a gun inside a busy Costco Wholesale store Sunday in Lenexa was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer who was there shopping, according to Lenexa police.

Police responded shortly after 11 a.m. to the store near 95th Street and Interstate 35. When officers arrived, they found that the shooting was over. An off-duty officer who happened to be in the store shopping had fatally shot the armed man, said Lenexa Police Capt. Wade Borchers.

Customers and employees fled through the store when the man, shouting and carrying a gun, stood just inside the entrance, said Betty Willits, 82, of Merriam.

Freep and other loons are trumpeting the “good guy with a gun” nonsense. This good guy also had a badge, quite a bit of training, and a state peace officer’s license. That is not the same as a dozen yahoos pulling out their Glocks and blazing away, quite possibly at each other.

Roy Moore is not behind. I would bet $5 on Jones, not $100.

The RCP average of polls has Jones ahead. I’m not saying Jones is a lock, but only that he has a good chance of winning a race that no Democrat should have any chance of winning. But what if the Democrats had nominated a sexual predator, which apparently a lot of people here would have no problem with? Then the only advantage we had would’ve been negated and Moore would win easily. Many of you seem to think that the Democrats will be handicapped by not embracing sexual predators; I think we will be throwing away a clear advantage we have over the GOP if we do.

I think there’s a considerable difference between embracing them, circling the wagons to protect them, and denying everything while waiting for the media to give them cover, and awaiting proper procedure and investigations before resignation. Nobody here has indicated that they would have ‘no problem’ with Democrats nominating and embracing sexual predators. If they were to behave just as Republicans have with any of these accusations, much less attempting to brazenly justify pedophilia, then there would be no difference.

The response of both Al Franken and the Democrats to the accusations leveled thus far has been appropriate. It has demanded accountability without reflexively overreacting, which is different from how Shirley Sherrod, for instance, was treated when confronted with an accusation that turned out to be baseless. I don’t think these accusations are baseless, nor do any reasonable people. But that doesn’t mean that immediate resignation is appropriate or necessary, given the scale of accusations. Again, there’s a big difference between that and embracing sexual predators.

I have ordered TVs online a couple of times. One of them came with a shattered screen. I called the vendor and they set up an RMA and 2 days later a guy came and dropped off a new one and took the busted one off my hands. I was pleasantly surprised with how easily it all went.

TCL seems really off-brand to me, and the price is suspiciously low, but the reviews are good.

TCL’s been around for a long while, making stuff for other brands when those other brands stopped making their own stuff (RCA/Thomson, Blackberry) and for private labels; it’s really only been within the past few years that they’ve marketed their own-branded stuff here in the US.

Hell, they even bought the naming rights for Grauman’s Chinese Theatre back in 2013.

TCL’s primary products are TVs, DVD players, air conditioners, mobile phones, home appliances, electric lighting, and digital media.

It primarily sells its products under the following brand names:

TCL (in Africa, Asia, Australasia, North America, South America, and Russia (TV, air conditioners);
Alcatel and Thomson mobile phones (global)[22]
BlackBerry (smartphones) global
RCA branded electrical products in the United States.
The company, as of April 2012, is in venture with Swedish furniture giant IKEA to provide the consumer electronics behind the Uppleva integrated HDTV and entertainment system product.[23][24]

In 2016, it contract manufactured the DTEK50 and DTEK60, for BlackBerry Limited, under their flagship BlackBerry brand. In December 2016, it became a licensee of the BlackBerry brand, to manufacture, distribute, and design devices for the global market. As of 2017, it distributes BlackBerry devices under the name of BlackBerry Mobile.

TCL is also the owner of the Palm brand.

Most voters don’t care whether members of their team behave badly in their personal life. Look at the Evangelicals almost all of whom pretend to be religious yet truly don’t care how immoral their candidate is. And the GOP doesn’t really care — the only reason most were concerned about Moore is the fear he might cost them a seat. Look, they don’t seem to have any problems with a “President” who is actually a traitor and a fan of Putin, yet any Democrat who behaved that way would be out of office now. We have far more serious problems facing this nation than these behaviors —- we have a party in power who is going to steal from the poor to enrich the rich, who is damaging the environment without worry, who is dismissive of science, who is harming education for those without wealth, etc. What we have to do is figure out a way to win these elections, regardless of what it takes.

Well, surprise.

GOP TAX BILL HURTS POOR PEOPLE: The Post reports that a new Congressional Budget Office analysis of the Senate GOP tax bill finds that it’s even worse for poor people than we thought:

By 2019, Americans earning less than $30,000 a year would be worse off under the Senate bill, CBO found. By 2021, Americans earning $40,000 or less would be net losers, and by 2027, most people earning less than $75,000 a year would be worse off. On the flip side, millionaires and those earning $100,000 to $500,000 would be big beneficiaries, according to the CBO’s calculations.

This is because the bill repeals the mandate, leading to large reductions in health-care spending on poor people. That’s all to fund the corporate tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit top earners.

re: #221 Big Beautiful Door

The voting public isn’t ok with that, as illustrated by Trump’s 38% approval rating. If Roy Moore is in danger of losing in Alabama, imagine all the seats in places not as deeply red as Bama where Democrats are going to win in 2018. Now imagine we tell suburban women that the Democrats aren’t interested in their votes because its more important to keep male sexual predators in office.

The 38% approval has nothing to do with Trump’s being a sexual predator but everything to do with his accomplishing nothing in office and his erratic and unprofessional demeanor while in office. If he had legislative accomplishments, even if they harmed the country, but the GOP promoted them as the best ever, his ratings would be much higher.

If we win [AL-Sen], we will win by less than 2%.

Hey, by the usual standards of Democratic/Republican voter patterns in AL, that would be a historic landslide. I went to the Alabama SoS’s website to check the state’s voting patterns: and while they have no data later than 2014, the turnout for big (i.e. Presidential) elections seems to be - a fairly high, IMO - 70% or so: but even if turnout is 65% or so, that’s still 1,900,000 votes*: even a 51-49 split is a margin of 38,000: I’d take that in an instant: after all, we only need a margin of 1.

* estimating a total registration of 2,900,000 rounding up (?) from the last figures provided (2014)

Are you a male or female?
My impression was male, but this is the internet and one should never assume.

I am male. I think part of the problem here is that most men aren’t in fact sexual predators. So when I suggest that Democrats have a higher moral standard than Republicans, they imagine people losing jobs for flirting, or a compliment, or maybe a kiss at the end of a date when the woman didn’t feel the chemistry the man imagined. All I’m talking about is taking a clear stand against the minority of men who are predators and who serially cross boundaries any decent person knows shouldn’t be crossed. It frustrates me when people here say no Democratic sexual predator should resign from office until Trump does. Is that really the message we want to send to woman voters? Shouldn’t the Democrats be energizing women to get politically active, vote, and run for office by categorically rejecting Trump, rather than letting him set our moral standards in the gutter?

Two weeks ago, a dark, hairy spider dropped from the ceiling to somewhere behind my desk. I looked around for a while until I forgot about it. (The hairy ones [below tarantula size] don’t bother me, it’s the shiny ones, like a Black Widow, that do.)

One week ago, I remembered and poked around a couple of good hiding places, and found TWO hairy, dark spiders. I stopped tossing my cap on the floor after chasing them to parts unknown. I don’t have much in the way of Spider Chow in the office, so they can’t live forever.

I’m not very good at maintaining a high level of concern. Maybe I should work on that.

Talking of gobby: Turns out Katie Hopkins is too toxic even for the Daily Mail.

[…] news of her departure came three days after footage was published online showing her speaking at an event organised by far-right American think-tank the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

“It’s such a pleasure to be amongst people that are prepared to fight for their country,” Ms Hopkins said, before telling the cheering audience it was “our time”.

“We can commit to arm ourselves, not just with the help of the NRA,” she added. “Get furious and fight back.”

The speech, made in Florida earlier this month, went on to claim areas of Britain were controlled by a “Muslim mafia” and allege that there was “institutionalised discrimination against whites” in the UK.

Ms Hopkins railed against “Muslim men” and the “Muslim mayor of Londonistan”, referring to Sadiq Khan, who she claimed she “cannot stand”.

First, Trump *is* the standard of behavior. Not the model, the standard. He was elected with these allegations known and discussed. That proves both your point about serial sexual predators as well as disproves your view of the voting public (which, I have to point out, are contradictory). Almost 50% of the voting public thought it was a good idea to vote for an admitted sexual predator. That’s the standard now.

Second, I already said multiple times why I think resigning immediately is a bad call. You’ve not actually explained why you lack nuance and cannot consider any other option for any offense rather than immediate resignation.

The point is that holding ourselves to higher standards has failed to give us any moral purchase because, for many, our existence as Dems already is a discounting moral failure. Trying to preempt any sort of moral posturing against us with resignation before its asked of us doesn’t give us any sort of tangible moral high ground. In many cases, it simply allows the GOP and the media to elicit an even higher standard of behavior for Dems while letting the GOP lower their standard even more because ‘both sides same thing’. We have to let the current standard run its course while demanding the GOP be drug back up to that bar, rather than raising our own bar without prompting.

And yet, sadly, it’s enough to get you elected with our system that favors small states, which are conservative. There are more than enough people that consider helping minorities to be a greater threat than barging in on teenagers or stalking them at a mall. So, while we have to try to maintain the highest standards we can, the reality is that that’s not enough to win elections.

Thing is we’re not even lowering ourselves to his level. Franken is stepping out in front of things with conciliation and offering himself up to ethical investigations. Conyers has stepped down from his chair pending investigation. They’re already paying more consequence than any GOPer caught in their same situation has ever paid, and there are likely even more sanctions coming if the investigations come out badly for either.

Trying to get out in front of these things with insta-resignation to gain credit with “decent people” is more likely to backfire and reinforce the idea that Dems are coddling predators, with the resignations pushed as admissions of guilt even worse than what’s happening now.

First Trump got only 46% of the vote and he’s been and continues to be the least popular president in his first year in office since modern polling began. I don’t agree with the poster who thinks that has nothing to do with his lack of moral standards; I think that’s a big reason why he is so unpopular even with a strong economy (thanks Obama!). Trump only won because Clinton got ratfucked by the Russians and Comey. Women have been energized by last year’s election, and to keep that energy high and motivated, the Democrats should set moral standards that candidates and office holders facing highly credible serious charges of sexual harassment ought to step aside. I don’t like seeing Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, who called on all the GOP legislators in Kentucky who settled sexual harassment claims to resign, taking a clear moral stand against sexual harassment while Democrats don’t. I know many here think we are playing into GOP hands if the Democrats take a clear stand, but I think the Democrats are playing into GOP hands if we don’t. There is a lot of political talent in the country and women are seriously underrepresented in Congress; we don’t have to cling to sexual predators.

It frustrates me to see this incessant mansplaining to women about how we feel about this. As if we haven’t experienced actual sexual predation and real sexual harassment and well know the difference between these and a fanny pat at a party. You apparently don’t since you insist on putting them all in the same box.

It frustrates me to see a claimed ally insisting throwing Democrats under the nearest bus without due process. Though the party has taken the accusations seriously and called for investigations as is proper procedure, you claim that we are “embracing” sexual predation. I submit that both cannot be true simultaneously. I see a party that is sane and well morally grounded the way these accusations are being handled both by the party and the men accused. That’s the message this woman voter is receiving.

I’ve been seeing a whole lot of Democrat party outreach to women. Haven’t you? Were you not paying attention to the last election? Have you not been seeing here the number of posts about the record number of Democrat women running for offices?

…that an investigation (say by the senate) would no longer be necessary and hence “more cover up”

sure - it’s recognizing and supporting the rule of law

response to accusations and allegations should be acknowledgement and cooperation with any inquiry or investigation seeking facts, truth and whether the accusations have merit

immediate and unconditional resignation in response to allegations is not productive

Precisely this. And once again, it’ll end up becoming the standard only for Dems, while GOPers can deny, deflect, and be defended and skate by because they inoculate themselves from consequence.

I’m hoping Jones beats Moore and demonstrates that isn’t the case. But even if Jones loses by a small margin, that only goes to show that Alabama is an extremely red state where its almost impossible to win; in virtually any other state the moral clarity between Jones and Moore would spell victory for the Democrats.

Our government under Trump has combined some elements of authoritarian regimes but also the worst of crony business too. In a sense and maybe I’m off here but it really reminds me a lot of the many former Soviet Republics where an egomaniac controls the country and dispenses favortism to his family. I feel like my responses to you are becoming increasingly antagonistic, and I want to pull back from that.

I think that you may be not fully reading the responses, and possibly knee-jerking your reaction. Whatever you think the reasons Trump won the general, his history of sexual harassment was a known factor, and 46% of the voters *were okay with it*. Trump’s low approval rating right now has very little to do with sexual harassment until about the past two weeks, and there is no credible argument to make that it is a significant factor over emoluments or Russia.

You still are unable or unwilling to see nuance in offense, and have not touched on why you think measured responses are inappropriate. Can you give us a hint on what you’re thinking with that, please? It can’t be that ‘women voters will love us if we make everyone with an allegation resign’, because that is just…not the way things work.

When retired Marine Col. Lee Busby read it was too late for a write-in candidate for the Alabama senate race, he said, “Hold my beer, we will just see about that.”

Busby told The Daily Beast on Monday he is launching his long-shot bid to stop Republican nominee Roy Moore from reaching the Senate.

“I have no idea if the allegations against him true or not, but I don’t see anything within his experience as a judge that qualifies him for the job.”

Busby said his state needs a choice other than Moore or Democrat Doug Jones.

“Alabama is not happy with the two choices we have down here. They are not appealing.”

Busby said he spent 31 years in the Marine Corps and on his last tour of duty was vice chief of staff to then-Gen. John Kelly, who is now White House chief of staff.

If Franken is a sexual predator, he is the most inept sexual predator on record. So far the most he has even been accused of is finagling an unwelcome kiss. One label fits all.

I’m behind reading…pretty busy morning/day.

Anyway, I think labeling Franken a sexual predator is going too far as far as I understand the term.

We need more definitions of sexual offenses. I think there used to be two. A sex offender and a sex predator. Moore seems to fit the predator as did Trump because of actually seeking women to offend. Franken seems to be more an offender.

What a mess. But it is a mess that will be given a thorough examination, or should, in the next few years.

Not to jump on those that want Franken to resign, but as far as I can tell, most of the women I hear talking about this are less harsh on Franken than some of the male members here. That might be a good sign that we can reach a realistic outcome.

And then there are the conservatives that will still try to get over on the Democrats while they still go about doing their same crap as always.

I am male…. Is that really the message we want to send to woman voters? Shouldn’t the Democrats be energizing women to get politically active, vote, and run for office by categorically rejecting Trump, rather than letting him set our moral standards in the gutter?

re: #294 allegro

Allegro said a lot of what I was about to, and hit that nail square. BBD, as a male, are you quoting from women you know and interact with IRL, or from polling of Democratic women? I’m frustrated because it feels you aren’t listening to the women in this group when we’ve spelled out our concerns and opinions.

I am a 61-year-old white Democratic suburban female. I want my party to react in a reasoned and proportionate response to reports of sexual harassment or predation. I want due process; when an allegation is proven, I want an appropriate consequence. Jerky behavior like unwelcome kisses or grabs deserves an honest apology, and warrants a sharp eye in the future, but not necessarily resignation unless the jerk keeps doing it. Workplace harassment that exploited or threatened a subordinate warrants a stronger response, and yes that’s probably resignation. Predation — rape, stalking, incest, pedophilia, abuse et alia — warrants unequivocal and preferably legal consequences.

Yes, all the gamut of sexual offenses are intolerable, but THEY HAVE BEEN TOLERATED for pretty much all of human history. We’re trying to fix that in the present and for the future, but I’m old enough to remember the past, and to know that it’s a process. Equality is a generational goal, that long and hard road that’s always been bloodiest for the women of color who get hit twice over.

I want and expect the Democratic Party to lead the way on these societal changes — women of all colors are the backbone of this party, and we will make it happen. I also expect there to be a wide range of opinions among Democrats as to how to make it happen, and how much tolerance to grant someone who was a jerk in the past but is making an honest effort to learn. We’re Democrats, we don’t march in step! I still want due process because not all allegations are true, but they all deserve a hearing.

You’ve stated your position repeatedly, occasionally mentioning that it is your position, but you’ve phrased it consistently as concern about what ‘women voters’ will think or how ‘Democratic women’ will react. If you’re quoting women you know, then cite them; if you’re projecting what you think we will think, try asking us?

Pick your battles. Yeah, this is a good one.
I don’t expect all Dem candidates/officeholders to personally approve of abortion. I do expect ALL of them to protect the rights of all women to make their own choices.
