Any time they can’t figure out what something was it must have been used ceremonially, or to keep the evil eye away, or something. I seem to recall ancient pieces with holes, carved from bone or wood that someone recently pointed out were more likely rope making tools than scepters used in religious rites.

This isn’t quite the situation here. The faces on that dingus look like the faces of other tomb guardians of the time or later. Also, one armrest implies two, and I don’t believe any more were found in this (previously undisturbed, I think) tomb.
